Why indoor air quality testing matters

Most air quality selling in this trade runs backwards: the product is chosen first and the justification is assembled afterwards. Testing reverses that. In the Sacramento Valley there are three things genuinely worth measuring — fine particulate, which spikes hard during wildfire season and stays elevated indoors for weeks afterwards; humidity, which drives the microbial growth that produces the musty smell people notice at start-up; and actual delivered airflow, room by room, which is what determines whether the filtration you already own is doing anything at all. A house with a good filter and a starved return is not filtering much. Numbers tell you which of those is your problem before you spend money on the wrong one.

Our guarantee

If you are not satisfied with the result, we come back and make it right at no charge.

Benefits

What you get

Particulate measured, not estimated

Fine particulate readings taken in the living space and at the return, so you can see what the system is actually circulating.

Humidity mapped through the house

Readings in several rooms and at the equipment, since a single hallway reading hides the problem areas.

Airflow measured room by room

Delivered airflow at each register, which is what determines whether your filtration is doing any work.

Filter fit and bypass checked

A high-rated filter in a housing that leaks around it is filtering the gap. We check the fit, not just the rating.

Written report you keep

Readings, photographs and plain-language findings in a document, not a verbal summary and a quote.

Recommendations ranked by value

What to fix first, what can wait, and what you do not need. Including the option of doing nothing.

Process

How we do it

Walkthrough and history

We go through the house, the system, the filter history and what you have actually noticed, before any instrument comes out.

Particulate readings

Fine particulate is measured in the main living areas and at the return so the two can be compared.

Humidity mapping

Readings are taken room by room and at the equipment to find where moisture is actually collecting.

Airflow at each register

Delivered airflow is measured per room, along with static pressure at the equipment.

Filtration and duct inspection

Filter fit, bypass and the visible condition of the ducts and coil are checked and photographed.

Written report and recommendations

You get the readings, the photographs and a ranked set of recommendations, including anything we think you should skip.

Questions

Indoor Air Quality Testing FAQs

What does the testing actually measure?

Fine particulate, humidity, delivered airflow per room and static pressure at the equipment, plus a visual inspection of the filtration, ducts and coil.

Will you just recommend your own services?

The report frequently concludes that the ducts do not need cleaning. If your problem is a filter fit or an undersized return, that is what the report says.

Can you test for mould?

We identify visible growth and the moisture conditions that cause it, and we photograph what we find. Laboratory speciation of a sample is a different service and we will refer you for it.

How long does testing take?

Usually about ninety minutes for a typical home, and the written report follows within a couple of days.
